Why haven't you competed in anything? How are you ever going to know who you are and if what you're doing matters if you never challenge the former and test the latter? That last part is particularly true in relation to how you approach the gym.
Competing in something will very quickly point out whether you have been "working out" or "training," because there is most definitely a difference between the two.
If all you're doing is working out, time off doesn't matter all that much; there is nothing to keep you on track and focused.
Training, on the other hand, is precious; every moment is spent in pursuit of a greater good and every action is either greater than or less than what your opponent is doing, and you will test that at some point.
Find a reason. Name a challenge. Learn something about yourself.
