Before you close your eyes at night, you need to ask yourself if you did everything you could that day to wake up the next morning a better version of yourself.
What "better" means is entirely up to you, but, to my mind, it means more of what brings a person closer to realizing his or her dreams and aspirations, not further away; it is a function of sound decision making on a daily basis, not just sporadically doing "the right thing" when it is convenient or easy.
It means being aware of the long game, not just the here and now. Better means accountability on a scale most people will spend their whole lives in passive avoidance of because of the sacrifice inherent in self-improvement. But everything else is a compromise that will slowly turn into a regret; don't let that happen.
